In addition to the people listed on this page, CHI contractors and volunteers provide a wealth of expertise in many fields related to our work.
Founders
Mark Mudge, Founder, President, and Board Member
Mark's work at CHI has concentrated on ease of adoption of digital imaging techniques by cultural heritage professionals. His focus includes the trustworthiness of “born digital” images, the semantic richness of metadata records, and how to ease the burdens of long-term digital archiving. Mark has a background in digital imaging, including 3D scanning, and he also has extensive fine-arts experience in sculpture and bronze casting. More
Carla Schroer, Founder, Director, and Board Member
Carla leads the training programs at CHI, as well as working on field capture projects with Reflectance Transformation Imaging, photogrammetry, and related computational photography techniques. She also directs the software development and testing activities at CHI. She is an experienced digital photographer and is proficient with multiple software programs and techniques for creating reproducible, scientific digital representations. More

Casey Cameron, Office Manager
Drawing upon her extensive background in writing, editing, and management in the commercial software industry, Casey handles various editorial and administrative tasks for the group at CHI, including page-building and updates to the web site. She is excited to help support CHI and its mission. More
Marlin Lum, Imaging Director
Marlin is responsible for improving digital documentation techniques and raising awareness about the preservation of cultural artifacts and heritage sites. He has been a creative director and imaging professional for over 10 years. With art as his passion, Marlin brings to his work at CHI a unique blend of creative imaging and professional photographic skills. More

Jean Elliott, Board Member
Jean is an expert technology marketing professional with a passion for the arts. Jean has held leadership roles in product marketing, business planning, and strategic analysis. She is currently Senior Director of BizSpark Marketing on the Strategic and Emerging Business Team at Microsoft. Jean aims to broaden CHI's community of friends and donors through communication, events, and the media. More
Allen Hopper, Board Member
Allen is an attorney whose practice has focused upon civil rights and liberties, abuse of governmental authority, and criminal defense law. He is currently the Litigation Director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Drug Law Reform Project. Allen is also committed to the preservation of historical art and artifacts, and he is excited to be part of CHI's work. More
Jason Horowitz, Board Member
Jason has dedicated his career to expanding and deepening global connections, applying learning, communication, and influencing skills across geographical, cultural and organizational lines. He was formerly Director of Business Operations in the Client Software Group at Sun Microsystems, and prior to that, he was a Foreign Service Operator for the U.S. Department of State. More
Tom Malzbender, Board Member
Tom is a research scientist working in computer vision, imaging, and 3D graphics. During his 31-year career at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, he developed Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) along with Dan Gelb. His RTI/PTM methods are used in the fields of criminal forensics, paleontology, and archaeology. His recent work imaging the Antikythera Mechanism led to the deciphering of this
ancient astronomical computer. More
Susy Struble, Board Member
Susy is a technology marketing and policy professional with a long-standing focus on improving data sharing and promoting the public good in networked systems. She is currently director of marketing at a data-focused software start-up. Susy views CHI as the technical engine behind the drive to preserve the world's cultural heritage, and she is honored to help CHI execute on its mission. More
