Jean Elliott, Board Member
Jean Elliott is a seasoned technology marketing professional with a passion for the arts.
After 14 years with Sun Microsystems and a brief sabbatical, in September 2010 she joined Microsoft's Strategic and Emerging Business Team in Silicon Valley as Senior Director of BizSpark Marketing. SEBT supports companies working on the Microsoft platform and helps develop local software economies worldwide by engaging with entrepreneurs and early-stage startups.
During her tenure at Sun, Jean held a variety of leadership roles in product marketing, business planning and strategic analysis. Most recently, she was the Senior Director for Cloud Services and Developer Tools where she managed the worldwide product marketing team for Sun's Communications Suite, StarOffice, NetBeans and developer tools. Before that she served as "product boss" for the Sun Cloud and led a global initiative focused on attracting developers to Sun and its technologies. She also played an active role in Sun's developer programs for academia.
Previously, Jean managed Sun's product marketing for the Java Platform, its open source development practices, Java Card, and the emerging Real-Time and Embedded Java businesses. Prior to Sun, Jean founded and managed the Quality Assurance Group for Gensym Corporation, a company whose software is used to automate mission-critical decisions in real time.
Outside of her professional life, Jean has been an active member of the Junior League, one of the largest and most effective volunteer organizations in the world. Since joining the Junior League in 1992, she has led or participated in more than 14 direct service or fund raising projects to support the health and education of families, women and children.
Jean holds an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management and a BA in Philosophy and French from Trinity College. During college, she spent six months studying in Avignon, France and traveling through Europe. She enjoyed countless hours exploring all kinds of museums, churches and cultural sites.
Jean is inspired by the CHI team's mission and its members' expertise, integrity, innovation and enthusiasm as they work with institutions and cultural heritage objects. By joining the Board, Jean hopes to help CHI broaden its community of friends and donors through communication, events, and the media.
