Consulting
Preparing an Egyptian lintel at the Hearst Museum
To augment its workshops and training sessions, Cultural Heritage Imaging (CHI) offers a variety of specialized consulting services.
Here are some examples.
The CHI team can travel to your institution and take RTIs (digital photo captures using Reflectance Transformation Imaging) of selected objects. This is useful if you want RTIs to serve as proof-of-concept for a grant application, or if you would like to obtain high-quality RTIs quickly and easily.
Arrangements can be made for you to bring an item to CHI’s San Francisco studio for an RTI session. If you have a portable object, and if you live in the Bay Area, this might be a good option for you.
CHI can advise you on approaches to a particular project or help you solve a specific imaging challenge. Are you thinking about shooting RTIs with a microscope? Are you wondering about the best way to shoot an RTI outside in sunlight?
You can get advice from CHI technical experts to get the most out of Reflectance Transformation Imaging and related technologies for your institution.
Need advice on what camera or other gear to use? CHI staff can help you with questions about the physical equipment that may be necessary for your photo shoot.
If you’ve had some training but need additional help, CHI can guide you through the RTI process via a phone call or Skype. This additional support can help you gain more confidence and capture RTIs successfully.
CHI can advise about how to integrate the RTI process into your institution’s existing workflow. This can be key to truly making RTI part of your practice.
To date, CHI has provided these consulting services to both institutional and private clients, with special rates for nonprofit organizations.
